About Our Ridgebacks
The Rhodesian Ridgeback is and very good candidate for a house dog. They are clean dogs with little odor and their hair is short so shedding is less of a problem. The more they are kept indoors, the more often they will shed. If they are kept outdoors, there will be seasonal shedding.
They are not droolers unless they are anticipating something good to eat.
I word of caution is to make sure you are consistent with your rules for them. They will be consistent with their desires to take over the furniture and sleep in your bed.
They also have a very avid sense of smell and will take food from the counters if left alone to tempt them so put away the food.
Yes. When the breed was imported to Rhodesia, the big game hunters of the time found them to be excellent hunters and used them to hunt lions. They were found to be the only breed of dog that could, in a pack, keep a lion at bay for the hunter...and live.
While they are known as the hunter of the King of Beasts, the Ridgeback in Africa was an all-purpose dog, kept by farmers to guard the home and herds and to do a bit of hunting
